5-Minute Craft: Painted Flower Pots

Sometimes a gal just wants to make something in a hurry. No fancy tools, no laundry list of steps. In my new column, "5-Minute Craft," I'll show you some cool ways to get your craft on in a jiffy. This time: dressed-up flower pots.

Galvanized steel or ceramic flower pots are definitely pretty, but it's easy to save a ton of dough by upgrading a simple terracotta one. A pop of color makes a big impact, and this craft is so simple that you can do it with one eye open.

You'll need:

  • a terracotta pot
  • blue painters' tape
  • a foam brush
  • outdoor paint
  • stencils (optional)
Make it:
  1. Prep your pot with painters' tape. To make the stripe in the photo above, just wrap the tape below the lip of the pot. To use a stencil, just secure all sides of the stencil with the tape.
  2. Dip your brush in the outdoor paint and dab it onto the pot.
  3. Let the paint dry, and apply another coat.
  4. Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the stencil.
  5. Dry overnight before planting and watering.
