The seed packet boasted "Mammoth" sunflowers. I assumed it was just a superlative. Then this happened.
Our little sunflower patch started out small. We were ecstatic when the seeds sprouted. By the time they grew waist-high, we were downright giddy. We peeked out our window first thing every morning to see if the leaves had grown bigger overnight. When I saw insects nibbling on the leaves, I blasted those buggers with the hose--full stream. Jess: 1. Aphids: 0.
Suddenly, they were soaring overhead. Clearly, we're pretty proud of our gentle giants.
