No-Needle Garlands

There's something about stringing up a garland that makes even a drafty apartment feel like a cozy cottage. They're also a quick fix for an empty wall. The problem is, a lot of the cutest variations seem to call for knitting and crochet skills (or at least a sewing machine). If, like me, your knitting skills sputter out at the pathetic four-inch scarf you spent weeks trying to untangle, never fear--you can whip up these versions sans needles.

To make this little garland, I unfolded the triangle part of a stationery-sized envelope, and traced it onto textured paper. Then I folded the top ½ inch over a piece of twine and taped it down. So simple!

Pinwheels seem to channel summer, so string one of these up next to a sunny window. Find the easy-to-follow illustrated tutorial at Peppermint Plum

This little pennant garland is for sale on Etsy, but you can easily make your own—just fold colorful washi tape over a piece of twine or bakers’ string, and snip to form a flag shape. It looks adorable as a cake topper, but you could also make a larger version to string up for a garden party--just substitute grosgrain ribbon for the tape.
